Ever since Jane Birken was photographed all those years ago walking around Paris with her basket, not another accessory has garnered so much chicness and style. The basket weave bag has been around for decades and for good reason, its classic and fun and a great way to add texture and dimension to a wardrobe for not very much money.
I’ve found some bags that I wanted to share with you that I love.
The first (and the priciest at $950) is the Johanna Ortiz ‘Las Olas’ bag in natural and black ombre detail made of palm fibers. This tote is huge (not ideal for any summer evening night out) but perfect for travel, beach, and market shopping. This really is a gorgeous bag and I could not stop staring at it and picturing myself carrying this around on a summer holiday wearing the perfect white linen dress.
My second pick is the SOEUR ‘Bon Bon’ basket bag woven in black and natural straw really is a perfect size tote. It’s not too large like the Johanna Ortiz ‘Las Olas” bag but it is big enough for everyday essentials and some and it’s not overly large in case your day turns into night and have not had time to change outfits. This has a really nice shape and I love how the two colors are woven together. This bag will go with anything and it’s very reasonably priced at $110.
Next, we’re looking at the KAYU ‘Isabel’ pom-pom tote made of seagrass and it’s charming (it’s $145). Perfect for daytime when you don’t want to carry much or a casual evening out with friends. I also love the circle shape, a great way to add dimension to an outfit, the black and white handles, and the adorable pom poms. It’s not very big, enough for the essentials but seriously, how cute is this bag?!
Another bag from KAYU is this star embroidered and fringe tote that is simply fun. I love a fun bag to add some upbeat personality to an outfit. Woven from a natural colored straw this bag is lined in twill, which is a bonus. This tote too is a good size, perfect for daytime and affordable at $75.
I love a good bucket bag and this one by Cesta Collective is really beautiful. It is made of sisal so its strong and durable and the price at $375 reflects that. The alternate camel and natural stripe pattern are delightful, they call this bag the ‘Lunchpail’, (how cute!) and comes lined in canvas. This bucket is small-sized and only fits the essentials such as phone, wallet, and lipstick but its perfect for those light days or party nights. Love it!
Last but not least is this Faithful The Brand ‘Ulla’ bag made of raffia and its the shape that first sparked my interest. It is small and only fits the necessities but the silhouette is not common and a great way to jazz up a simple summer outfit. The bag is lined in polka dots and is priced at $130.
Narrowing it down was hard and I’ve found more woven bags that I also adore down below in the carousel. The Dragon Diffusion ‘Nantucket’ tote is the only one in the lot that is not woven from raffia, straw or sisal but woven in leather strips. It’s an interesting take on the classic woven bag. I will definitely be keeping my eye out on this brand.
