I love accessories, and one of my all time favorite accessories is sunglasses. They are perfect to wear all day, when walking around enjoying the sights or simply enjoying a treat at an outdoor cafe or spending time on the beach. I always say you should invest in your accessories, and sunglasses are not an exception. They rest on your face and are the first piece of fashion someone will notice on you so take your time and find a pair (or pairs, as I will further explain in this post) that compliments your face and you enjoy wearing.
But how many different style of shades should someone own and have in their accessories collection? Well, I say you need five different types of sunglass styles to get your collection started.
There are so many shapes and styles to choose from and I believe you just need five basic shape frames in your closet that you can mix and match and help you style your outfits accordingly. I truly believe that anyone can wear any one of these shapes when you find the right size frame to compliment your face shape, so as always, take your time and shop smart.
THE AVIATOR FRAME
This is my ultimate go to style frame. The aviator is a timeless classic frame and I always recommend it to anyone as their first sunglass purchase. It is universally flattering and easy to pair with an assortment of outfits. The aviator frame is a style I always have on hand in my purse as a spare, just in case, is super lightweight, and looks great all around.
I love the classic gold frame with dark lenses. This is what I recommend first if you want to build on a collection. I prefer the frame to hit just outside the temples, and for the bottom to sit halfway between the eye and nose.

THE ROUND FRAME
The round frame, what can I say, you can have so much fun with this shape and really be playful with its size and the materials you decide on. You can choose a metal frame for a more classic, softer look or opt for a frame made of acetate in a bold color that really pops on the face. The possibilities are endless really and adding a round frame to your collection, I believe is essential because this frame really showcases a persons personality more than any other style, just look at the images below, I look at these women and think, ” She looks great I’d like to hang out with her!”
I truly love this shape and is a must in any growing sunglass collection. I especially love round shape sunglasses in a bright acetate color that pops against my skin tone the best. I have fun with this style and I encourage you to do the same. I tend to wear this style frame when outfit is simple and understated but what to show the more playful side to my personality.

THE RECTANGLE FRAME
Rectangle, square or wafer, call it what you want but this is the pair I wear when I want to be more rock and roll and add some cool girl edge to my outfit. I love a glossy black acetate rectangular frame!
This shape took me a long time to add to my collection because finding the best shape that flattered my face was not easy. There are endless sizes to choose from, so don’t rush but pounce when you’ve found “the one” because finding the best shape to flatter a face can be hard to come by.

THE CATEYE FRAME
I adore the feline shape of a cateye frame. It is such a retro style and I actually own a couple of this frame shape. I have an all black acetate frame as well as a classic brown tortoiseshell pattern frame and I love them equally. There is something so feminine about the cateye frame and I wear them when I want to feel extra girly.
When choosing a cateye frame, there are so many interpretations of this style so have fun with it. I always suggest keeping it classic by choosing a pair in a solid color like black or in a caramel tone such as tortoiseshell, but as always find the right shape and size that suit your face and features.

THE FUN FRAME
I call this the fun frames or fun shades and let me explain what this means. It is not about any particular frame shape but more about the size of frame and the color of frame. Now is the time to add some playfulness to your growing sunglass collection once you’ve added the classics listed above. Building your sunglass collection should take time and once you have established what frame shape you prefer and looks the absolute best on your face, try adding your preferred shape in a bright color or textured materials.
If you love accessories as much as I do, the fun frames is mandatory. Thats what fashion and style is all about, showcasing your personality and not taking the whole thing, the whole style thing, so seriously.
